DUSHANBE, April 15, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Over the first three months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 793.9 million U.S. dollars, which was 99.1 percent of the January-March 2009 level or 7.3 million U.S. dollars fewer, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to 288.3 million US dollars.

Exports of goods in January-March 2010 amounted to 252.8 million US dollars, which was 45 percent, or 78.4 million U.S. dollars, more than in the same period last year.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period amounted to 541.1 million US dollars, which was 13 percent, or 86.7 million dollars, fewer than in January-March 2009.

Compared to February 2010, exports last month decreased by 20.9 percent, while imports in March 2010 increased by 27.7 percent.

In January-March 2010, Tajikistan had trade relations with 73 countries of the world, including 10 CIS states.  Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 43.1 percent (342.4 million dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 56.9 percent (451.5 million dollars) of the country’s external trade turnover.
