DUSHANBE, April 28, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Tuesday April 27, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi visited the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, where he delivered a statement on the subject of “Tajikistan and China: Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation for Pace, Stability and Prosperity,” the Tajik MFA information department said.

Researchers from the Academy as well as representatives of a number of diplomatic missions accredited in China, specialists from the Headquarters of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and a group of Tajik students studying in China attended the meeting.

The Tajik foreign minister, in particular, noted that Tajikistan and China had laid a broad and efficient legal foundation of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

Zarifi noted that China has been among the top three foreign economic partners of Tajikistan since 2005 and it has become a key investor in Tajikistan.

“Experts attribute significant qualitative and quantitative expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation to the beginning of implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects in Tajikistan and statistical figures confirm this,” said Zarifi, “Since 2006, Chinese corporations have actively worked in the sectors that are priority areas for development of Tajikistan’s economy: mining; textile industry; telecommunications; and construction.  It is obvious that Tajikistan’s market with its favorable investment climate is becoming more and more attractive for Chinese companies.”

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) is the premier academic research organization in the fields of philosophy and social sciences of China.  it is also the most important think tank in China.  It has also been ranked by Foreign Policy as the top think tank in Asia.  Established in 1977, CASS was built on the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and affiliated to the State Council of China.
