Tajik speaker, Japanese diplomat discuss cooperation issues

DUSHANBE, April 30, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Shukurjon Zuhurov yesterday met with Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé d”Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said the two discussed a broad range of issues related to Tajik-Japanese cooperation.  A special attention was given to inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.

Shukurjon Zuhurov expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for support for implementation of a number of socioeconomic projects in Tajikistan.

Tajik speaker also acquainted Japanese diplomat with a new membership of Tajikistan’s parliament and noted that the current level of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries did not meet requirements of the times and suggested that necessary conditions should be created for expansion of bilateral cooperation between the parliaments of Tajikistan and Japan.

For his part, Mr. Nakayama briefed Tajik speaker on structure and activity of Japan’s parliament.  He noted that a group of friendship with Tajik parliament had been set up at Japan’s parliament, Sultonov said.
