DUSHANBE, May 5, 2010, Asia-Plus — Officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) seized some 50 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations carried out in Dushanbe on May 2 and 3, according to the DCA press service.
An operation carried out by the drug control officers on May 2 led to the arrest of a member of the organized drug-trafficking wring that was engaged in smuggling Afghan heroin via the territory of Tajikistan. 25 packages containing narcotic drug that was tested positive to heroin weighing some 25 kilograms were found in his Land Cruiser Prado.
On Monday May 3, an active member of another organized criminal group that was engaged in transportation of narcotics from Afghanistan via Central Asia’s countries to Russia for a long time was arrested in Dushanbe. More than 21 kilograms of Afghan “chars” (hashish) were confiscated from him.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both drug traffickers and an investigation is under way.
