DUSHANBE, May 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — On Friday May 14, Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov received visiting director of Kazakhstan’s company, Kazakhplod, Khalil Ostanov.
During the meeting, Ostanov noted that Kazakhstan’s market was flooded with fruit-and-vegetable products from China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, a source at the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) said. “However, high-quality fruits and vegetables from Tajikistan could find their buyers in Kazakhstan,” the Kazakhplod top manager noted.
Kazakhstan is ready to buy more than 2,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables in Tajikistan this year, the source noted.
According to him, Ostanov said that they planned to launch a Tajik-Kazakh joint venture that would be engaged in the regular delivery of Tajik agricultural output to Kazakhstan.
The sides agreed to set up a working group made up of representatives from Tajikistan and Kazakhstan that will study legal and economic aspects for organization of Tajik fruit-and-vegetable deliveries to Kazakhstan, the source added.
