DUSHANBE, May 17, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Over the first four months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 1.132 billion U.S. dollars, which was 97.4 percent of the January-April 2009 level or 30.3 million U.S. dollars fewer, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to 378.8 million US dollars.

Exports of goods in January-April 2010 amounted to 377 million US dollars, which was 35.8 percent, or 99.3 million U.S. dollars, more than in the same period last year.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period amounted to 755.7 billion U.S. dollars, which was 14.3 percent, or 129.6 million dollars, fewer than in January-April 2009.

Compared to March 2010, exports last month increased by 82 percent, while imports in April 2010 increased by 2.6 percent.

In January-April 2010, Tajikistan had trade relations with 79 countries of the world, including 10 CIS states.  Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 41.3 percent (467.9 million dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 58.7 percent (664.8 million dollars) of the country’s external trade turnover.
