Dushanbe. 24 May. Asia-Plus — Heavy rainfall, which occurred in Tajikistan last Sunday, May 23, caused new victims and multiple damage to houses and infrastructure. Thus, a mudflow that occurred in Kumchi village of Javan region killed an 11-year-old herder Emomali Boymurodov, the Emergency Committee told the AP. The boy’s dead body has been found and handed to his relatives.

Another tragedy occurred in Sarband where a 25-year-old resident of Dushanbe Suhrob Badalov drowned in local river. The accident is being investigated.

In Shurobod region rescuers have managed to prevent another accident in which mud-and-stone mass blocked vehicle loaded with 50kg of sodium cyanide (highly toxic colourless salt is used mainly in gold mining but has other niche applications. It is an inorganic salt derived from neutralisation reactions involving the weak acid hydrogen cyanide) which was travelling to Aprelevka joint enterprise located in Kairakkum. “Boxes with highly toxic substance were removed to safe place,” the source has said. Rainfalls also caused severe damages in Rudaki, Vakhdat and Nurek regions where several houses, crop land and highways were damaged. Special commission to identify the total damage cased by the disaster.
