Dushanbe. 24 May. Asia-Plus — The United States will encourage freedom of religion worldwide and will continue to establish solid links with the Muslim community, the US Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Rashad Hussain spoke at a press conference in Dushanbe on May 21.
He said the United States, which discourages any limitations in religion and faith, will observe the situation with freedom of religion in Tajikistan.
Furthermore, Rashad Hussein stressed that the United States is seriously concerned over Iran’s nuclear commitment. “Iran should respect the requirements of the international community to implementation of its nuclear program,” Hussein has said.
Under a deal forged with Turkey and Brazil on May 17, Iran would hand over 1,200 kilograms of low-enriched uranium to Turkey. In exchange, Tehran would receive further enriched nuclear fuel.
Rashad Hussein stressed that “previous diplomacy of the United States over Iran was not successful, while U.S. Barack Obama Administration’s policy seeks to establish closer relations with Iran. We seek to strengthen our relations with Iran and establish good friendly links. We use various opportunities to do that but the fundamental principle remains the same: no alternative but peaceful use of nuclear energy.”
Rashad Hussein arrived in Dushanbe to take part in the 37th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference which took place in Tajikistan’s capital on May 18-20.
During his official visit the US Special Envoy to OIC met with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, leaders of Muslim and other religious groups to discuss strengthening of mutual understanding between the US and Muslim community.
