DUSHANBE, July 19, 2010, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the deputy head of the Customs Service, Nemat Rahmatov, revealed on July 19 that  some 280,000 tons of oil products for a total amount of 162 million U.S. dollars have been delivered to Tajikistan over the first six months of this year.

According to him, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan provide the bulk of Tajikistan’s fuel imports.  “Russia accounted for more than 90 percent of the overall volume of oil products delivered to the country over the report period,” said Rahmatov, “The remainder was delivered from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.”

He also noted that Tajikistan’s imports amounted to 1.1315 million U.S. dollars in January-June 2010, which was 6.1 percent, or US$73.2 million, fewer than in the same period of last year.   Exports of goods over the report period amounted to 557.1 million US dollars, which was 35.4 percent, or 145.6 million U.S. dollars, more than in January-June 2009.
