DUSHANBE, July 20, 2010, Asia-Plus — Issues related to the latest developments in the region, reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy and role of Tajikistan in providing support for reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy, as well as ways to strengthen security in Kyrgyzstan and future economic and social projects of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) for Central Asia were a major topic of brief talks of Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi with the OIC Secretary-Genera, Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu made a brief stopover in Dushanbe yesterday while on his way to Kabul, where he will attend an international donor conference.

The two also considered issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the OIC member nations.

Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi today morning departed for Kabul to attend the donor conference that is opening there today.

The donor conference that is held on July 20-21 has drawn foreign ministers from some 60 countries.  Co-chaired by Afghan President Hamid Karzai and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the conference will review government projects the international community hopes will kick start the economy.

The conference is expected to adopt a paper outlining the handover of power to Afghan security forces by 2014.
