DUSHANBE, July 29, 2010, Asia-Plus — Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi said on Thursday Tajikistan supports Iran’s right to develop a peaceful nuclear program.
Tajik minister stressed that Tajikistan was against any form of developing nuclear weapon in an corner of the world, including Iran. “It is our position, our president spoke about that earlier,” Zarifi said.
“Tajik-Iranian relations are now at high level and ties between the two countries have been improving,” said the minister, “We share common history, culture and language and our relations with Iran are based on principles of the United Nations.”
The minister noted that Tajik-Iranian relations have not undergone any serious changes. “Iran is taking a active part in our economic projects,” Zarifi said, expressing hope that the Sangtuda-2 HPP will be introduced into operation in 2011 and construction of the Istiqlol Tunnel will also be completed next year.
