KHUJAND, August 30, 2010, Asia-Plus — Sughd law enforcement authorities have reviewed the results of the first stage of the ongoing nationwide anti-drug operation, dubbed Poppy-2010.
The chief of the Drug Control Agency’s office in Sughd, Abdullo Fayzulloyev, told Asia-Plus today that some 84 kilograms of narcotics have been seized in the province over the first stage of the operation, May-August. A totaled included 36 kilograms of heroin, more than 40 kilograms of hashish, and some other narcotics. Besides, 1,259,280 bushes of Indian hemp have been destroyed over the report period.
In northern Tajikistan, the nationwide Poppy-2010 Operation has involved 103 vehicles 117 operational groups consisting of 1,753 law enforcement officers and 1,317 public servants, the Sughd counter narcotics directorate chief said.
The first stage of the Poppy 2010 Operation was launched in Tajikistan in May and ran through August and the second stage will start in September and runs through November.
