DUSHANBE, September 7, 2010, Asia-Plus – An official opening of new textile mill took place in the city of Norak on September 7.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), the enterprise with capacity of processing 1000 tons of cotton and producing 900 tons of cotton fiber has been built under financial support of joint-stock company Nasojii Tojik.
In all, 400 new jobs have been created and the enterprise operates in three shifts, the source said.
In the meantime, Tajikistan has produced 248.6 million somoni worth of light industrial goods over the first seven months of this year, which is 5.3 percent fewer than in the same period last year, according to the data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Compared to January-July 2009 the index of the volume of production of goods amounted to 87.1 percent for cotton-ginning factories, 95.4 percent for cotton industry, and 75.6 percent for silk industry. In the meantime, the sewing and knitting industries have increased production volumes over the report period, exceeding the January-July 2010 level by 37.7 and 4.4 percent respectively.
We will recall that Tajikistan endorsed the light industry development program for 2006-2015 in October 2015. The program provides for increasing the volume of annual production of cotton fiber to 95,500 tons by 20105. The volumes of annual production of gray cloth and finished cloth are expected to be increased to 98.9 million and 68.4 million meters respectively by 20105. An average annual production index will amount to 106 percent. 7,200 new jobs will be created and a total amount of financing will be 314 million U.S. dollars due to attraction of investments and internal funds.
