DUSHANBE, October 7, 2010, Asia-Plus — Specialists from the Canadian company, MEDS (phonetically spelled), have taken samples from the gold ore show, Rumri, in Tavildara district, some 200 kilometers east of Dushanbe, according to the limited liability company, Sarvat.
The source says the samples were taken in September. “The ore show is located in a remote mountain area and work will be carried out from May through September,” said he. “Canadian specialists have studied the site, determined the ore type and the samples have bee sent for analysis to Canada.”
According to him, the preliminary findings of the survey conducted by Canadian specialists show that Rumri is highly promising potential ore show at the early stage of geological examination.
The source added that the deposit status would be given to the Rumri ore show after estimation of its possible gold reserves.
We will recall that Sarvat that jointly with Canadian MEDS is exploring the Rumri gold ore show was granted the license from the Tajik government to explore gold reserves of the Rumri ore show in 2008 already. The Sarvat director Abdumutalib Muminov says geological specifications of the area allow supposing that there is a medium-sized gold and silver deposit there and development of that deposit will be economically efficient.
Tajikistan reportedly has 28 known gold deposits containing an estimated 429.3 tons of gold. The country now produces on average 1,600 kilograms of gold per year, most of which comes from the Jilau deposit operated by the Zeravshan Gold Company (Tajik-Chinese gold-mining joint venture, located in Sughd province).
According to the Ministry of Energy and Industries, Tajikistan has produced 740 kilograms of gold and 1,545 kilograms of silver over the first six months of this year, which is 203 and 367 kilograms respectively more than in the same period last year. In all, 1,703 kilograms of gold are expected to be produced in Tajikistan this year.
