DUSHANBE, October 7, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Project, From the Crisis towards Decent and Safe Jobs, has been launched in Tajikistan.

A delegation of the Finnish MFA and the International Labor Organization (ILO), led by Timo Voipio, Senior Adviser for Global Social Policy, Finnish MFA, was in Tajikistan on October 4-6 for a three-day visit to hold talks with partners in Tajikistan and visit places for implementation of the project.

Mr. Voipo told reporters in Dushanbe yesterday that the project designed for 2010-2013 will be implemented in eight countries (five countries in Central Asia and three countries in Transcaucasia) with enlistment of the services of the CIS institutions.

“The project will be executed by the International Labor Organization (ILO) Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (formerly called the ILO Subregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia; the new name designated in April 2010),” said Voipo, “The estimated budget for project is 4 million euros.  The funds are allocated by the Finnish MFA.”

According to him, the project is aimed at supporting employment, labor safety, social guarantees, and sustainable social development through decent work country programs with regard to priorities of each of the countries.  Three main components of the project includes employment extension, labor safety and social protection.   The project beneficiaries are vulnerable sections of the population, including both unemployed and women and men employed in formal and informal economy in cities and rural areas, Mr. Voipo stressed.

Speaking at the news conference, Tajik Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, Emin Sanginov, noted that a national consultative group had been set up in the country for implementation of the project.  The group members include representatives from ILO, Tajik government and trade unions.
