DUSHANBE, October 23, 2010, Asia-Plus — 8.3 percent increase in prices of basic food products was reported in January-September this year, Ms. Bakhtiya Muhammadiyeva, the director of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe on October 22.
According to her, non-foodstuffs have risen in cost by 4.2 percent over the report period and rates for services rendered to the population have increased by 5.3 percent over the same nine-month period.
“Over the report period, the price for a 50-kilogram sack of the first grade wheat flour rose 21 percent, the price one kilogram of beef rose 18 percent, mutton – 9.4 percent, dairy products – 9.1 percent, sugar – 6 percent and so forth,” Muhammadiyeva said.
Over the first nine months of this year, rates for fixed-line telecommunications services rose 76.9 percent, electric power – 20 percent, water supply services – 7.5 percent, rail tickets – 19.6 percent.
Asked about trustworthiness of the statistical data, Muhammadiyeva noted that the data published by the Agency for Statistics were quite reliable. “Figures provided by the Agency are thoroughly checked by the statistical bodies of other countries,” said she. “Our data are processed in Russia and Europe. International experts arrive in Tajikistan to examine methods of work of our Agency.”
