KULOB, October 25, 2010, Asia-Plus — A by-election to fill the vacant seat in the Kulob local council (Majlis) will take place in November.

The by-election is held as incumbent representing constituency # 40 in city legislature, Davlatkhouja Kamolov, died.

The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s organization in Kulob held a conference at the end of last week to nominate its candidate to run in the by-election.

The head of the PDP’s organization for Kulob Khursand Azamov says they have nominated Ismon Khoushvakhtov, an official with the Kulob mayor’s office, as the party candidate to run in the by-election in constituency # 40.

According to the Kulob city electoral commission, the remaining five political parties functioning in the area have not yet nominated their candidates.

The Kulob local council has 40 members: PDP has 35 seats, the Communist Party (CP) has two seats and the Party of Economic Reforms has one seat.  Besides, two self-propelled candidates entered the Kulob legislature under support of the ruling party.
