Tajik president pays official visit to Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, October 25, 2010, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon departed for Kabul today morning for a two-day official visit.

According to Tajik presidential press service, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, State Adviser to the President for International Issues Erkin Rahmatulloyev, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Farrukh Hamraliyev, Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali, Minister of Transport and Communications Olimjon Boboyev, State Committee for Investment and State-owned Property Management Chairman Davlatali Saidov and some other officials are accompanying Rahmon on his visit to Afghanistan.

President Emomali Rahmon is expected to hold talks with his Afghan counterpart, President Hamid Karzai, Wolesi Jirga (Afghanistan’s lower house of parliament) Speaker Yunus Qanuni and Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani, the head of the Afghan Peace Council, the source said.

The sides are expected to consider issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, strengthening of border security and joint measures to combat drug trafficking.
