An attempt to illegally import drugs on a large scale was thwarted in the Khatlon province of Tajikistan. The incident occurred on April 17, 2026, around 00:50 on a section of the state border in the Farkhor district, the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan (SCNS) reported.

The SCNS statement, posted on the website of the state-run news agency Khovar, notes that three Afghan citizens illegally crossed the border and entered the country’s territory in the area of responsibility of military unit No. 0307 of the Border Troops.

“During the operational-combat activities, the law enforcement agencies established the route of the violators and took measures to detain them. The smugglers ignored the lawful demands of the border patrol and offered armed resistance.

As a result of the firefight, two members of the criminal group were neutralized. The third participant managed to use the cover of darkness to escape back into Afghan territory,” the SCNS reports.

Kalashnikov assault rifles, 7.62 mm caliber ammunition, a hunting rifle, and two bags containing 25 packages of narcotic substances were seized at the scene.

According to expert conclusions, the seized substance is hashish with a total weight of 25 kilograms.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted on the incident under several articles of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code. An investigation is under way.

The SCNS noted that the situation on the state border remains stable and fully controlled.
