Russian border guards have been granted the right to check personal phones, computers, and other electronic devices of each individual when crossing the border. This was reported on April 16 by the Representative Office of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population of Tajikistan in Russia.

In case of refusal to unlock the device and allow its inspection, according to Article 18.7 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, a citizen may be fined an amount ranging from 5000 to 7000 rubles or subjected to administrative arrest for up to 15 days.

“These measures are aimed at combating extremism and smuggling. Border authorities have the right to inspect citizens’ personal belongings when crossing the border, and refusal to allow inspection may lead to legal consequences,” explained the representative office.

Citizens traveling to the Russian Federation are advised to take these requirements into account to prevent potential difficulties when crossing the border.

Earlier, the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population of Tajikistan had drawn attention to the need to comply with legislative requirements related to the registration and enrollment of children in school in Russia.

After entering this country, every child is required to be registered for migration along with their parents within the established period (up to 15 working days). This will require the child’s documents (passport or birth certificate), migration card, and parents’ documents, as well as proof of residence. Children are registered at the same address as their parents. If the place of residence changes, registration must be updated to avoid fines.
