KHUJAND, January 22, 2011, Asia-Plus  — An extraordinary session of the Sughd regional legislature (Majlis) took place in Khujand on January 21.

Upon the recommendation of the Sughd prosecutor’s orffice, the legislature adopted the decision regarding the repeal of inviolability of its member Vali Nozirov, who represented constituency No 11 (Vorukh, Isfara district) in the Sughd local council.

Speaking at the session, the deputy Sughd prosecutor, Firdavs Urunov noted that Nozirov had attempted to give a bribe (US$3,000 and 60,000 Russian rubles) to an investigator for concealing cases of illegal allotment of lands.

According to Urunov, the Sughd prosecutor’s office on January 10 received an application from a group of residents of Vorukh over illegal allotment of lands in the Vorukh cooperative headed by Nozirov.  “On January 16, an investigator was sent to the area to probe into the facts and Nozirov attempted to give him bribe,” the prosecutor said.

Nozirov was arrested and criminal proceedings were institute against him under the provisions of Article 320 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – act of bribing.
