KHUJAND, February 21, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Construction of four apartment buildings in the center of Khujand, the capital of Sughd province has been suspended.

According to the Khujand mayor’s office, they allotted land in the center of the city for construction of four 25-story apartment buildings in 2008 already.

“Korean company, SR, was supposed to build these high rises,” said Nemat Yusupov head of the Sughd capital construction department, “The SR-Sokhtmon firm that was registered in Dushanbe was carrying out construction works.”

Investors, however, were forced to freeze construction work due to global financial crisis, according to him.

“Last November, the investor representative applied to the Khujand municipal government, asking not to cancel the decision on allotment of land for construction of the mentioned apartment buildings,” said Yusupov, “They were told to resume construction work no later than in March this year.  The investor is currently seeking other partners for construction of the high rises in the center of Khujand.”
