DUSHANBE, February 23, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajik Foreign Ministry has applied to the Russian authorities for help with evacuation of Tajik nationals from Libya.

Davlat Nazriyev, a spokesman for Tajik MFA, says an appropriate note was sent to Russian MFA on February 22.

He noted that currently, Tajik diplomatic missions in Moscow and Cairo are dealing with evacuation of Tajik nationals from Libya.  “21 Tajik nationals are now in Libya and 14 of them are students at International Islamic University in Tripoli,” Nazriyev said.

According to him, the Tajik Embassy in Cairo has failed to get in contact with Tajik nationals staying in Libya because all communications in that country are cut.

In the meantime, Russian media outlets report that Russia’s Emergencies Ministry is working out two routes of evacuation of Russian citizens from Libya — by air and by ferry (this route is being working out jointly with Turkey).
