DUSHANBE, May 26, 2011, Asia-Plus – On Thursday May 26, 2011, Mr. Kazuya Harada, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Rustam Rahmatov, Chairman of Ayni District, Sughd province attended a handover ceremony of “The Project for Rehabilitation of Regional Hospital No.1 in Anzob Jamoat, Ayni District” for the total amount of US$89,503 at Regional Hospital No.1 in the Anzob jamoat, Ayni district.

According to the Embassy of Japan, the project financed by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully completed.

Established in 1981, the Regional Hospital No.1 in Anzob jamoat, Ayni district has been taking a main role to provide medical service to the residents in Ayni district.  Moreover, as the hospital is the nearest medical facility from the Istiqlol Tunnel and the Dushanbe-Chanak highway, which connects Dushanbe and Khujand, injured persons by traffic accidents around those areas were transferred to the hospital.  However, due to lack of major rehabilitation of the hospital building since the construction, the hospital building became too old and the medical equipment needed to be replaced in order to provide appropriate medical service.

Through the project, the total rehabilitation of the third floor, as well as partial rehabilitation of other parts, was implemented. Furthermore, new medical equipment such as electrocardiograph, gastro scope, surgical aspirator and centrifuge were installed.  The improved medical environment assures higher quality of medical service, which will allow patients to get proper diagnoses and treatment.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational / medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 19.3 million for 267 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
