DUSHANBE, June 8, 2011, Asia-Plus  — On Tuesday June 7, the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Chairman Shukurjon Zuhurov met in Seoul with Mr. Park Hee-tae, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says establishment of expansion of parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea was the focus of the meeting.

Tajik parliament speaker, in particular, noted that current relations between the two countries did not meet the call of the times and proposed to use all existing potential to intensify cooperation in all areas.

Zuhurov also expressed hope that opening of diplomatic mission of the Republic of Korea in Dushanbe would give a new impulse to expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Tajik and Korean parliament speakers reportedly also considered issues related to establishment of cooperation between their countries in sectors like trade, transportation, energy and communications.

Zuhurov invited Park Hee-tae to visit Tajikistan at any convenient time and the invitation was accepted with gratitude, Sultonov said.        

We will recall that Tajik parliamentary delegation is currently on an official visit to South Korea on invitation of Park Hee-tae.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) (Gukhoe in Korean language) is a 299-member unicameral legislature.  The latest general elections were held on April 9, 2008.  Single-member constituencies comprise 245 of the National Assembly”s seats, while the remaining 54 are allocated by proportional representation.  Members serve four-year terms.
