KHUJAND, July 20, 2011, Asia-Plus — According to the Sughd prosecutor’s office, 15 local officials have been implicated in bribery over the first six months of this year.

The latest such case has been considered by a court in Bobojonghafurov district and deputy head of the Ismoil jamoat (village council), Dadajon Karimov has got a jail term of 2½ years.

The Bobojonghafurov court completed consideration of criminal proceedings instituted against Dadajon Karimov on July 19 and sentenced him to 2½ years in prison.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of bribery.

Judge Odilboy Usmonov, who presided over the trial, said Karimov was detained by anticorruption officers in Aril this year while he was taking US$200 from local resident for allotment of a land plot for housing.  The court ruled that Karimov will serve his sentence in a minimum-security penal colony.
