KHUJAND, July 26, 2011, Asia-Plus  — German mountaineer has died in a fatal climbing in the northern Ayni district.

The Sughd emergencies official Zafar Ashrapov told Asia-Plus today that the accident occurred in the Fondaryo jamoat of Ayni district on July 16 or 17.  “The 40-year-old mountaineer from Germany, Alexander Lukas Rosa, fell of a rock wall due to failure to comply with safety measures mountains,” said  Ashrapov.  “Rescuers and climbers started a search operation for him on July 20 and his body was found on glacier on July 23.”

According to him, the Ayni prosecutor’s office has launched probe into death of the German mountaineer and an investigation is under way.

It is the first case of death of climber in Sughd province this year.  Last year, one foreign mountaineer died in the fatal climbing in the province.
