DUSHANBE, August 19, 2011, Asia-Plus – The Government of Japan allocated $224.000 for implementation of two projects in Tajikistan

Grant contracts for “Construction of the #51 secondary school in Vorukh Jamoat in Penjikent city” and “Reconstruction of the bridge and road in Lyakhsh Jamoat of Jirgital region” were signed in Dushanbe on August 16th.

The documents were signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Tajikistan Yoshihiro Nakayama, Penjikent Mayor Hisrav Abdunazarov and head of Jirgital region Aslonbek Abdurahmonov.

In the frameworks of grant projects for humanitarian security the Government of Japan is allocating $111.800 for construction of secondary school in Vorukh Jamoat. The school was built in Ven village of Vorukh Jamoat of Penjikent region back in 1985 by local residents and is currently not operating as the building was severely damaged by the 2006 earthquake. Currently, children from this village study at local mosque. It is expected that the project will provide more than 240 pupils with better education conditions.

The second project for which the Government of Japan will allocate $112.000 provides for reconstruction of a bridge and rehabilitation of a road in Lyakhsh Jamoat in Jirgital region.

The bridge in Lyakhsh Jamoat, which links five villages of Alga, Kashot and Lyakhsh Jamoats with central part of Lyakhsh Jamoat of Jirgital region, was never repaired since 1960 of the last century. The bridge, as well as the road between villages of Oxoy and Jailgon, will be rehabilitated.

The source in the Japanese Embassy is confident that these projects will contribute greatly to poverty reduction in Jirgital region and will let improve level of education in Penjikent city.
