The Supreme Court has considered criminal proceedings instituted against Fayzullo Bobokhonov and sentenced him to seven years in prison on August 19.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of extortion, misuse of power, fraud and criminal attempt.

The source says former senior investigator with the Hisor prosecutor’s office Shohrukh Nouraliyev was also in the dock.  He was sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison.

Defense lawyers of Fayzullo Bobokhonov and Shohrukh Nouraliyev do not agree with the verdict.  One of Bobokhonov’s lawyers, Saykomil Qurbonov, in particular, noted that he intended to appeal against the verdict.  According to him, Bobokhonov and Nouraliyev are due to be granted partial amnesty.

The son of former Tajik Prosecutor-General Bobojon Bobokhonov was arrested in July 2010 on corruption charges.  Faizullo Bobokhonov was charged with being an accomplice in a bribe-taking incident involving $20,000 while serving as chief prosecutor of Hisor, a suburban district outside the capital.  Bobokhonov was dismissed from that position shortly after his influential father retired as prosecutor-general in Late January 2010 after serving for 10 years.

Fayzullo Bobokhonov”s property, including two houses in Dushanbe and two half-finished houses in Qurghon Teppa and Hisor as well as three vehicles, were confiscated.
