DUSHANBE, September 6, 2011, Asia-Plus — More than 250 small hydropower plants have been built in Tajikistan over twenty years of independence.

President Emomali Rahmon remarked this yesterday while opening the first unit of the Iranian-built Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

According to him, 190 other small hydropower plants should be introduced into operation in the country under the long-term program for construction of small hydropower plants in Tajikistan until 2020.

The president noted that the Pamir-1 and Sangtuda1 hydropower plants, power transmission lines South-North, Lolazor Khatlon and Konibodom-Batken (Kyrgyzstan), as well as the substation “Somoni” in the city of Kulob have also been introduced into operation over the years of independence.

“All this has allowed creating the unified power system of the country and yielding appreciable results in seeking solution to energy problems,” Rahmon noted.
