DUSHANBE, September 15, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Three wardens of the pretrial detention facility of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have been found guilty of causing the death of prison inmate.

The court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district sentenced three officers of the pretrial detention facility to jail terms on September 15.  Rahmonali Rahmonov and Yusuf Ibrohimov were sentenced to 8 years in prison each and Latif Davlatov got the jail term of three years.  The sentenced followed conviction of Rahmonov and Ibrohimov on charges of deliberate infliction of serious bodily injury that entailed negligent death and Latif Davlatov was charged with negligence.

But an amnesty was applied to them and Rahmonali Rahmonov and Yusuf Ibrohimov have their terms cut by two years, while Latif Davlatov was released in the courtroom.

We will recall that Ismoil Bachajonov, 32, who was held in the pretrial detention facility, died under unclear circumstances in June this year.

“Bachajonov, who was convicted of the drug trafficking charge, was held in the pretrial detention facility as his case was remitted for examination,” the source in the Interior Ministry told Asia-Plus in an interview in June.  “The Prosecutor-General’s Office has opened an investigation into the death of Bachajonov and two officers of the detention center were arrested over that case.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them under the provisions of Article 110 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – deliberate infliction of serious bodily injury.”
