DUSHANBE, November 16, 2011, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday November 15, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Shamsuddin Qurbonov, Director of Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology attended a handover ceremony of “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology” at the Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology in Dushanbe, the Embassy of Japan reports.
The project which was funded by the Government of Japan in the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) with the total amount of US$104,900 has been successfully implemented.
The resuscitation department of Tajik scientific research institute of obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology is the only department that can conduct medical treatment for new-born infants in emergency cases as the institute is specialized for the provision of technical treatment in relation to obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology. The institute has suffered from its limitations on proper treatment due to the shortage of medical equipment, despite that the preterm birth cases have been increasing in Tajikistan.
The government of Japan, through the project, assisted in the provision of new medical devices such as a phototherapeutic device, artificial lung ventilation apparatuses and spray batchers to the institute. The project will improve the medical service of the institute as well as the health condition of new-born infants and mothers in Tajikistan.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational / medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 20.4 million for 277 projects in Tajikistan since 1996.
