DUSHANBE, November 21, 2011, Asia-Plus — 43 percent of surveyed Russians have declared for admission of Tajikistan to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), a survey conducted by the Public Onion Foundation (FOM) says.

According to FOM, 35 percent of those surveyed have declared against Tajikistan’s joining the EEU and 24 percent of those surveyed have found difficulty in replying this question.

Meanwhile 61 percent of surveyed Russians are for unification of former Soviet republics and only 20 percent of those surveyed are against the unification.         

We will recall that Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia have agreed to form a three-way commission to foster closer economic ties.  Officials from the three countries signed a compact on November 18.  Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, speaking on state television, said the commission is to start work in January with the creation of what would be called the Eurasian Economic Union possible by 2015.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin recently floated a plan for a much larger bloc that would be similar to the European Union.

The Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) that was originally established as a Division of the Center for raising charity funds, separated from the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) in 1992.  FOM is now one of the largest nationwide research agencies.  Its network consists of reliable permanent partners in more than 80 regions in Russia (where 98% of whole country population reside).  The Public Opinion Foundation conducts almost all kinds of researches.
