DUSHANBE, January 10, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Last year saw good harvests in Tajikistan, Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov announced at a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Agriculture at the end of last week.

The meeting was held to review the results of the past year’s year work.

The minister noted that the country yielded more than 415,000 tons of raw cotton last year, which was 6.6 percent more than it was originally planned.  Last year’s cotton target was determined at 390,000 tons of cotton.

Last year, Tajik farmers produced some 1.1 million tons of cereals, more than 1.2 million tons of vegetables, 423,000 tons of watermelons, melons and gourds, 863,000 tons of potatoes, and 262,000 tons of fruits.

Besides, Tajikistan produced 150,000 tons of meat, 696,000 tons of milk and 255,000 eggs in 2011, the minister noted.  

As of January 1, 2012 there were 1,900,500 of head of cattle, 4,500,000 head of sheep and goats, 4,400,000 head of poultry and 77,000 horses on all categories of farms.
