DUSHANBE, January 12, 2012, Asia-Plus – A East Air jet carrying 112 was forced to make an emergency landing in Moscow when its cabin became depressurized, Russia media sources report.

The Boeing 737 was en route from Moscow to Kulob on the night of January 10-11 when the cabin became depressurized.  The accident took place at the altitude of 8,250 meters over the Penza oblast at 10:00 pm and the flight had to be returned to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport.

The plane landed safely at about 11:00 pm, Russian media sources said.  No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile East Air management has refrained from commenting on the accident.

It is to be noted that it is already second case of depressurization on East Air’s planes.  On December 24, the East Air aircraft that was en route from Moscow to Kulob was forced to return to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport after its cabin became depressurized.  No injuries were reported.

East Air is a charter airline based in Dushanbe.  Wikipedia reports the airline provides charter services for various airlines, including Eastok Avia and Iraqi Airways.

The East Air fleet reportedly consists of: 1 Airbus A320 (1); 2 Boeing 737-200 (one of them is operated by Tajik Air); 2 Boeing 737-300 (one of them is operated by Icar Air); and 2 Boeing 737-400 (one operating for Eastok Avia and one operating for Iraqi Airways.

East Air now operates to the following destinations: Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg); and India (New Delhi).
