DUSHANBE, January 20, 2012, Asia-Plus — On January 25, 2012, The 11th Network Meeting of Stakeholder Organizations on Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation is expected to take place in Dushanbe on January 25.

According to Ms. Dilafruz Usmanova, Communications & Reporting Officer of “TajWSS” project, the second anniversary will be held with participation of Mr. Rahmat Bobokalonov, Minister of Land Reclamation and Water Resources, Mr. Peter Mikula, Country Director of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Madina Aliberdieva, Oxfam Country Director, a.i. in Tajikistan, Mr. Andrey Pogrebnyak, UNDP Deputy Country Director, a.i. and many other high ranking officials.

The participants will discuss the presentations on Taxation and Corruption in drinking water supply sector; Single Window and allocation of Land for obtaining construction permit for the water supply systems.  A short documentary about TajWSS Network activities will be shown in the course of the meeting and further broadcasted on TV.

Today TajWSS Network provides a platform for more than 60 stakeholder organizations including Policymakers, Investors, Academics and Organizations of the Civic and International Societies.  TajWSS support the diverse stakeholders in rural drinking water to have access to the process, information, and language necessary to participate effectively in testing and modeling sustainable and effective solutions for the governance, management, operation and maintenance of drinking water supply in rural areas of Tajikistan.  TajWSS bring the issue of developing rural water supply and sanitation to researchers and the results of researches to policymakers.

Through the joint work of all stakeholders such issues as ownership and operational management of water supply and sanitation systems; simplified administrative procedures for construction permit; inventory of drinking water supply systems were addressed and as a result, a number of researches, 4 policy papers and 2 guidelines were prepared by the experts and specialists and shared with Inter-Ministerial Coordination Council on Drinking Water Supply for consideration and final decision.

The project is implemented by Oxfam under financial support of the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

SDC is responsible for the overall coordination of development activities and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as for the humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation. SDC is part of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

Oxfam works with others to overcome poverty and suffering.  Oxfam GB is a member of Oxfam International.
