According to him, current external debt is equal to 33.2 percent of Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP).

“Last year, the external debt service amounted to 62.56 million U.S. dollars,” said the minister.  “33.96 million U.S. dollars were allocated for repayment of the principal and 28.6 million U.S. dollars were allocated for repayment of the debt interest.”

Long-term preferential loans from international financial institutions reportedly form the bulk of the country’s external debt.
