KHUJAND, February 1, 2012, Asia-Plus  — More than 66 kilograms of hashish were seized in two operations carried out by police officers in the northern Sughd province on January 31, an official source at the Sughd police directorate said.

More than 44 kilograms of hashish were intercepted in the Bobojonghafurov district and some 12 kilograms of hashish were seized in the city of Konibodom.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug pushers and an investigation is under way.

According to the statistical data from the Sughd police directorate, more than 575 kilograms of narcotics, with more than 133 kilograms of them being heroin, were seized in northern Tajikistan in 2011.  During last year, local law enforcement officers arrested 297 people on drug charges, including 23 women.
