KHUJAND, February 7, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The local authorities of Tajik Jabborrasoulov district (Sughd province) and Kyrgyz Leilek district have discussed issues related to extension of opportunities of a narrow-gauge railroad connecting the two districts, a source at the Jabborrasoulov district administration said.

“This railroad connects the Kyrgyz coal-mining settlement of Sulyukta and the Tajik settlement of Proletarsk and implementation of the practical part of the agreement will begin in March,” said the source, “This railroad is now used for shipment of coals both within the Leilek district in Kyrgyzstan and to the Jabborrasoulov district in northern Tajikistan.  The sides now plan to use the railroad also for shipment of food products and consumer goods.”

A 47-kilometer narrow-gauge railroad from Sulyukta to Proletarsk was introduced into operation, and nine kilometers of it lie on Tajik territory and 38 kilometers on Kyrgyz territory.
