DUSHANBE, February 7, 2012, Asia-Plus – On Monday February 6, Public Affairs Officer Wesley Robertson participated in the official opening ceremony of the U.S. Embassy’s first Window to America, located in the Faizobod district, the U.S. Embassy said.

The Window to America is a collaborative effort between the local government of the district of Faizobod and the U.S. Embassy.  Faizobod District Chariman Abdullo Hakimov, Deputy Chairperson Saibi Rajabova, USG program alumni Umed Rahimov, teachers, and students participated in the event.  The local government of Faizobod converted a room in the city’s new youth center into a library, and the Embassy provided four computers, desks, and English language materials, as well as brochures about life in America and U.S. Government programs.  Volunteers from the American Corner in Dushanbe, along with two Embassy supported English teachers, visited the Window in January and gave presentations to students and teachers.  Staff from the American Corner in Dushanbe will visit Fayzobod monthly to give presentations and rotate the books and English language materials. Speakers and English teachers from the U.S. Embassy will also visit to talk to students about a variety of topics related to American life and culture, educational advising, U.S Government programs, and teacher training.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Robertson said, “We hope to have many Tajik and American visitors who work to build bridges of understanding between our two countries.  We value your friendship and partnership and I look forward to many more visits to the Faizobod ’Window to America’ as our friendship continues to grow.”

American Corners and Windows to America are some of the many ways the America people support Tajikistan’s education and rural youth.
