DUSHANBE, February 16, 2012, Asia-Plus  — A disaster-relief exercise for the authorities and relevant agencies of Dushanbe’s Sino district was conducted Thursday morning.

Orif Nizomov, a spokesman for the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES), says the exercise scenario was based on heavy rainfall and devastating mudslides hitting the district.

Major-General Abdusattor Khoushvaqtov, the first deputy head of the CES, was in overall command of the exercise that was aimed at checking the district administration’s preparedness for emergency situations, the CES spokesman noted.

We will recall that an exercise to practice man-made disaster relief is being held in Dushanbe from February 14 to February 17.

The exercise, involving senior representatives from the Dushanbe mayor’s office and heads of Dushanbe’s district, is conducted in two phases.  The first phase (February 14-15) includes studying theoretical issues of providing assistance to the population in case of the man-made disaster.  During the second phase (February 16-17), senior representatives from local authorities jointly with specialists from the Committee for Emergency Situations are practicing the man-made disaster relief.
