This year the 46th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad was held in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 23-30. A total of 112 schoolchildren, including less than 50 girls, from 18 CIS countries, Baltic states and Europe took part in the Olympiad.

Gold medals were awarded to 11 winners, silver medals to 22 winners and 34 participants were awarded bronze medals.

Tajikistan was represented by seven participants from Tajik-Turkish joint lyceums and Azizov gymnasium from Isfara city. Tajik schoolchildren returned back with one gold, three bronze medals and two medals of Glory.

Gold medal was awarded to Ulugbek Barotov, an 11-form pupil from the joint Hoji Kamol Tajik-Turkish lyceum. This is the first and the only Mendeleev medal earned by Tajik schoolchildren in Chemistry Olympiad.

Other pupils of the same lyceum, Hamidjon Holikov, Behruz Nosirov and Maruf Boltaev, won third places and got the opportunity to enter the Lomonosov Moscow State University without entrance exams.
