On 15 May 2012, Mr. Takaaki KOMATSU, Third Secretary, Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan and Mr. Abdujon TAVAKALOV, Chairman of Panj District attended a handover ceremony at the maternity department of the central hospital in Panj district.

“Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to the Maternity Department of Central Hospital in Panj District” with the total amount of US$105,772, funded by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully implemented.

Established in 1977, the central hospital has been taking a main role to provide medical service to the people of Panj district. The medical equipment in the maternity department of Panj central hospital has never been replaced since its establishment. With the outdated and insanitary medical equipment, it was difficult to provide appropriate medical services to new-born infants and their mothers. Especially, the capacity of the central hospital was not sufficient for provision of proper diagnosis and quality treatment of premature birth cases.

Through the project, the maternity department is equipped with modern medical equipment such as ICU lung ventilator, surgical suction pump, hot air sterilizer and other medical devices, which is necessary for the appropriate medical service and treatment.

At the same day, Mr. Takaaki KOMATSU, Third Secretary, Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan and Mr. Mahmadrahim ISMOILOV, Chairperson of Jilikul District attended a handover ceremony at the regional hospital No.2 in Nuri Vahsh jamoat, Jilikul district.

“The Project for Rehabilitation of the Regional Hospital No.2 in Nuri Vahsh Jamoat, Jilikul District” for the total sum of US$105,992 was also supported by the Government of Japan in the framework of GGP.

The hospital has not been rehabilitated since 1991 and the health environment has become unsanitary. Moreover, due to lack of sufficient medical equipment, the hospital has faced difficulty in provision of a proper medical service to the population of the Nuri Vakhsh jamoat, Jilikul District.

In order to improve the medical condition, the construction of a new building and the rehabilitation of the existing building were conducted through the project. Furthermore, the new medical equipment such as ultra sound device, operation table and electrocardiograph were installed to the hospital.

As a result of these health projects, it is expected that the hospitals will be able to improve the health condition of local people in Panj and Jilikul district, Khatlon region.
