On Friday, May 18, Head of the Tajik Government’s Migration Service Safialo Devonaev met with Program Leader of the World Bank’s Migration and Remittances in Europe and Central Asia Program Mr. Sudharshan Canagarajah and WB’s Advisor on Migration Thomas Achakoso to discuss cooperation in the field of labor migration.

According to the Migration Service’s press service, Devonaev thanked representatives of the World Bank for comprehensive support to Tajikistan in migration issues.

Head of the Tajik Migration Service informed WB officials of the perspectives of work of the Service and stressed the need to improve resolution of issues linked to protection of the rights of labor migrants and members of their families which were discussed at UN Committee’s session in Geneva.

WB officials pointed at the importance of close cooperation with Tajik Migration Service for resolution of current problems and expressed their satisfaction over achievements of the republic in the field of regulation of labor migration.

The sides have agreed that in the frameworks of WB programs experts will provide comprehensive assistance to Tajik Migration Service for resolution of all current problems.

Devonaev offered to carry out joint activity in terms of premigration training in colleges since the country’s experience in this direction is not enough and there is a need to attract experts from Philippines.

WB officials expressed their willingness to provide assistance to Tajik Migration Service in terms of premigration training and resolution of migration problems.

According to press service the sides have also agreed to continue discussion of premigration training in the course of the forthcoming III regional conference and thematic workshops in MIRPAL network.
