DUSHANBE, June 20, 2012, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has endorsed amendments to 14 laws providing for reduction in scales of benefits for parliamentarians and officers from the power-wielding and law enforcement agencies several times. This proposal has been submitted for consideration to the parliament by the president and the government.
A regular sitting of the third session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on June 20.
Presenting the bills, Minister of Finance Safarali Najmiddinov noted that the amendments were connected with the necessity of carrying out economic reforms in the country and economical use of budgetary means.
According to the minister, the current scales of benefits were set when monthly wages of police officers, prosecutors and judges fluctuated from 13.00 to 31.00 somoni. “Over the past decade, their wages have risen 100-150 times and the scales of benefits have increased accordingly,” said Najmiddinov. “Thus, the current scale of post-retirement lump-sum grant for deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon is equal to six-month salaries. The scale of post-retirement lump-sum grant for officers from the Ministry of Defense is equal to ten-month salaries and officers from the customs service, police, as well as prosecutors and judges had similar benefits.”
The amendments proposed to the laws provide for setting the scale of post-retirement and injury-related lump-sum grants at the rate of three monthly salaries.
We will recall that current monthly wage of a deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon is 4,950 somoni.
