DUSHANBE, June 26, 2012, Asia-Plus – Lieutenant-General Rustam Nazarov, Director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Tajikistan, is attending presentation of the 2012 World Drug Report that is being held in New York today, the DCA press center reports.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the 2012 World Drug Report is being launched simultaneously in various cities of the world.  On the same day, it is also celebrated the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Elaborated every year by the UNODC, the document brings together statistic data and analysis of trends on the illicit drugs markets across the world, including production, trafficking and consumption, while serving as a reference for the implementation of public policies by governments.

The 2012 World Drug Report shows that, worldwide, the consumption and production of traditional illicit drugs (cocaine, heroine and cannabis) have remained stable, in spite of the shifts in flows and markets of these substances with a trend to grow in emerging and developing countries.

Furthermore, the Report warns about the increase in the production and consumption of synthetic drugs, such as amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS), as well as the consumption of substances that are not under international control.
