DUSHANBE, July 27, 2012, Asia-Plus — GBAO governor has prohibited Asia-Plus’ correspondent from participating in a public commission that has been set up to count civilian deaths in Khorog.

“The governor did not allow me to participate in the commission’s meeting,” said the correspondent.  “He told me that I cannot go there because he decided so.”

Meanwhile, residents of Khorog themselves elected Asia-Plus’s correspondent Ramziya Mirzobekova as member of the commission.

Established on July 25, the commission consists of 20 persons, whom residents of Khorog trust.

According to some sources, the commission counted at least 20-30 civilian deaths on the first day of its work alone.

Although communications with the region remain tenuous, the first videos and photographs made by mobile phones have appeared on social networking services.
