DUSHANBE, August 27, Asia-Plus  — Senior representatives from Tajikistan’s migration service agency have attended an international conference in Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China to discuss how to facilitate and manage international migration.

The press center of the Migration Service under the Government of Tajikistan reports senior migration officials from more than 30 countries of the world attend the International Conference on Immigration Inspection and Service that encouraged the exchange of data between countries, to enhance their capacity to manage international migration.

The two-day conference that took place on August 20-21 was hosted by the Bureau of Exit and Entry Administration of the Ministry of Public Security, and co-sponsored by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The conference reportedly offered a platform for countries to exchange information, ideas and experiences on migration management from both policy and practice perspectives.  Special sessions were devoted to the facilitation and regularization of exits and entries, application of new technologies and the prevention of irregular migration.

The conference explored responses to changing patterns in migration and further strengthen collaboration among countries and regions in addressing migration-related challenges.

On the sidelines of the conference, Tajik migration officials met with IOM Director General William Lacy Swing and held bilateral talks with their counterparts from Germany, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, the United States, Uzbekistan, France, and South Korea, the source said.
