DUSHANBE, August 28, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday August 28, Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov met here with Mr. Lars Nyberg, President and CEO of TeliaSonera AB, the dominant telephone company and mobile network operator in Sweden and Finland.

In the course of the talks, the sides reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and TeliaSonera.

Oqilov and Nyberg, in particular, considered issues related to training of personnel for Tajikistan’s mobile network, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat said.

We will recall that an office of mobile communications service provider, Tcell, was officially inaugurated in Dushanbe on August 28.

“Tcell” in Tajikistan is represented by two legal companies: CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan”, operating in Gorno Badakhshan, districts subordinate to the center (RRP), and Khatlon province and CJSC JV “Somoncom”, operating in Sughd province.  Both companies share the same values, offer the same products and are owned by the same shareholders.

Tcell is a common brand of CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” and CJSC JV “Somoncom” as of March 2010.  Before this were working under common brand “Indigo”.  CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” (South Tajikistan) was established in November 2001.  Indigo Tajikistan obtained a GSM-900 license in November’2001 and started commercial operation in July 2002.  In 2003, the North and South networks were united through a direct national roaming interconnection and continued working under the common brand “Indigo”.  During 2005-2006, the companies launched automatic international roaming, channel and data transfer (including IP, GSM-900/1800 and telematic service), 3G-UMTS and WAP/GPRS/MMS services.  In July 2007, TeliaSonera acquired controlling interest in “Indigo Tajikistan” and “Somoncom”.

TeliaSonera has operations in Sweden, Finland and other countries in Northern, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Spain, with a total of 150 million mobile customers (2010). It is headquartered in Stockholm and its stocks are traded on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.

TeliaSonera is the result of a 2002 merger between the Swedish and Finnish telecommunications companies, Telia and Sonera.
