DUSHANBE, March 1, 2013, Asia-Plus — The project for rehabilitation of the children infectious department at central hospital in the Panj district, Khatlon province with total amount of US$108,800 funded by the Government of Japan in the framework of the Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully completed.
According to the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Abdujon Tavakkalov, Chairman of the Panj district attended a handover ceremony at the infectious department of central hospital in Panj on February 27.
The high temperature of the Panj district in summer time and its geographical environment that shares borders with Afghanistan are reportedly making the children in the district vulnerable to various types of infectious diseases such as type A hepatitis and typhoid fever. For the treatment of the infectious diseases, the Department of Children”s Infectious Diseases of Central Hospital in Panj district was established in 1978. Since its establishment the building of children’s infectious department had not been rehabilitated even after Civil War which caused a partial destruction of the building. Lack of basic medical equipment had been another problem that hindered proper medical treatments.
After the implementation of the project, the building of the department is now fully rehabilitated, and new medical equipment to improve their basic medical service is available. As a result of this project, more than 1,800 children with infectious diseases can receive necessary medical care at the hospital.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 23.1 million for 300 projects in Tajikistan.
